2024 - 2025 OLD SHARKS FALL/WINTER SEASON
Dear Current, Past and Future Members of the Old Sharks Hockey Club,
The 22nd annual season of the Old Sharks Hockey Club (OSHC) will begin on Wednesday, September 4, 2024 for those who choose to play on Wednesdays and will begin on Sunday, September 8, 2024 for those who choose to play on Sundays. We will continue to have three games on Sunday nights and two games on Wednesday nights. Game times are the same as last year. Wednesday games will be from 9:00 p.m. – 10:05 p.m. and from 10:15 p.m. – 11:20 p.m., while Sunday games will be from 7:45 p.m. – 8:50 p.m., from 9:00 p.m. – 10:05 p.m., and from 10:15 p.m. – 11:20 p.m. The dates of all the games are on the www.oldsharkshockeyclub.com website.
Wednesday will still be independent from Sunday meaning you can sign up for Wednesday only, Sunday only, or both. Just like past years, IF YOU SIGN UP TO PLAY ONLY ON ONE NIGHT PER WEEK, YOU MUST PLAY ON THE NIGHT YOU SIGNED UP FOR AND YOU WILL NOT BE ALLOWED TO CROSS OVER TO THE OTHER NIGHT FOR ANY REASON!!! Regarding selecting the night you want to play, we want everyone to know that Wednesday nights is comprised primarily of A and B level players while Sunday nights are made of primarily B and C level players. Even though we will allow any skill leveled player to play on the night that he or she prefers, we encourage highly skilled players to play on Wednesdays and lower-level skilled players to play on Sundays.
We will use the same format we used last year which includes a short warm up period followed by the game where the time and score will be kept on the big scoreboard by the referee. For our first skates on Wednesday, September 4th and Sunday, September 8th we will have our one and only evaluation. Same as last year, we will be posting all information pertaining to the OSHC on the Old Sharks Hockey Club web site. Simply go to www.oldsharkshockeyclub.com for complete information regarding the club including both our fall/winter sessions and our spring/summer sessions. This is also where you will be able to find the schedule along with the team roster you will be assigned to for the fall/winter season.
We will post the rosters of the four teams for the September 4th Wednesday night evaluation by Tuesday, September 3rd, and the rosters of the six teams for the September 8th Sunday night evaluations by Friday, September 6th. After the evaluation, we will make adjustments to team rosters only if the games are lopsided. Throughout the season, every six weeks we’ll make up new teams and post the new rosters for Wednesdays by the Tuesday prior to the first game of the session, and every 10 games we’ll make up new teams and post the new rosters for Sundays by the Friday prior to the first game of the session.
All the rules will be the same as last year. These include the “tag up” rule for off-sides, icing from far blue line to goal line, and a penalty shot for the recipient of a blatant penalty. If the infraction is “marginal” in the discretion of the referee, there will be no penalty called. Wins and losses of each team will NOT be kept.
Just like last season, we will continue to allow substitutes ONLY IF THE TEAM WHO WILL HAVE THE SUBSTITUTE PLAYING FOR THEM HAS LESS THAN 10 PLAYERS WHO SHOWED UP.
Once the club fills up for the fall/winter season, if someone is interested in having their name or one of their friend’s name placed on the waiting list, they’ll need to contact Tim Kelley or Bryan Overmann at work at 636/464-1144 to let one of us know. You can also e-mail Bryan at [email protected] or Tim at [email protected] with the person’s name, cell phone number, and e-mail address. If you would like to be bought out of your spot after you have registered to play, a $25 processing fee will be assessed.
We would like to remind everyone that good sportsmanship and clean hockey play are required to continue club membership. No checking, fighting, or rough play is allowed. Very simply put, if any player behaves inappropriately, we will take the appropriate action against the player. This action could take many different forms including anything from a one game suspension to lifetime expulsion from the club if the infraction of the player is considered to be severe enough. All games missed due to suspensions or expulsions are non-refundable.
Just like last year, everyone will be required to wear a full set of ice hockey equipment. You will not be required to wear a full-face shield. However, everyone will be required to sign a “Release of Liability Agreement” acknowledging that if you choose to not wear a face shield you will accept all the liability for choosing not to wear the full-face shield.
Thirty-three games will be played on Sunday’s. The total cost for these games is $528 per player. Thirty-one games will be played on Wednesday’s. The total cost for these games is $496 per player.
Anyone wishing to play BOTH Sunday’s and Wednesday’s will need to make a payment for each night. As in the past, you can make your payment for both nights in full or you can make an initial payment and then make the final payment thirty days later. See the Old Sharks website for details. Goalies will play for free as in the past, but they’ll still have to register online and pay for jerseys if they need them. Anyone needing a set of jerseys, the cost is $70 per set which includes the Old Sharks logo on the front and your last name and number on the back. All new players are required to purchase a set of jerseys.
LIKE LAST SEASON, REGISTRATION WILL BE DONE ON-LINE ONLY. ROSTER SPOTS WILL BE FILLED ON A “FIRST PAY, FIRST PLAY” PRIORITY SYSTEM. TO REGISTER, GO TO www.oldsharkshockeyclub.com, THEN CLICK ON “FALL/WINTER”, THEN "REGISTRATION FORM". FOLLOW THE PROMPTS TO REGISTER, ACCEPT THE “RELEASE OF LIABILITY AGREEMENT”, AND PAY FOR THE FALL/WINTER SESSION. PLEASE NOTE THAT YOU HAVE THE OPTION TO PAY BY USING YOUR PAYPAL ACCOUNT, OR YOU CAN PAY BY CREDIT CARD. IF YOU DON’T HAVE JERSEYS, MAKE SURE YOU ORDER A SET.
Compared to other adult St. Louis hockey clubs or leagues, Old Sharks Hockey Club at the FSI Shark Tank continues to be by far the best value for the St. Louis adult hockey player! If you have any questions that have not been addressed in this letter, feel free to call Tim Kelley or Bryan Overmann at work during regular business hours at 636/464-1144. Thank you to all of you for continuing to make the Old Sharks Hockey Club a GREAT SUCCESS!!!
Tim and Bryan
